About Cancer Care

Cancer Care is an insurance policy that provides a financial safety net for you and your loved ones, in the event that you are diagnosed with cancer.

You can receive a lump sum cash payment from $25,000 to $300,000, for a premium as low as $3.50 per week.*

* Premium based on a non-smoking, 25 year old male or female at $25,000 cover level.

What does Cancer Care insurance cover?

Cancer Care provides you a lump sum benefit of up to $300,000 should you be diagnosed with cancer including melanomas, cancers of the blood, and even pre-cancerous tumours called carcinoma-in-situ. The lump sum paid to you is based on your cover level at the date your cancer is diagnosed, and the severity of your cancer.

Choose your level of cover?

You can choose from four levels of cover when you apply for Cancer Care:
- $25,000
- $50,000
- $75,000 or
- $100,000

If you select a cover level of $100,000, a 10% premium discount will automatically apply.

Receive up to three times your level of cover

You can receive up to three times your level of cover, depending on the severity of your cancer. More severe cancers will result in a greater lump sum paid to you, which will help you and your family when it’s needed most.

How will your cash payment be determined?

Your cash payment will be determined by the severity of the cancer, which Cancer Care defines within three levels:
Low: You will be eligible for a benefit equal to your cover level
Medium: You will be eligible for a benefit of two times your cover level
High: You will be eligible for a benefit of three times your cover level

What’s different about Cancer Care?

Cancer Care is a market-leading, unique and comprehensive cancer insurance policy.
It provides cover for a broader range of cancers than many other Australian trauma insurance products, ultimately providing you greater financial security.

Get market-leading cover with Cancer Care

Many insurance providers will offer you a payment in the event that you suffer a medical trauma, including cancer. However, often there are strict restrictions against the type of cancer that will be covered. Many policies will only cover you if you are diagnosed with the most severe cancers. Some insurers require the cancer to be of a certain size, depth or grade. What’s worse, often insurers will pay you only a fraction of the cover you have paid for.

What’s different about Cancer Care is that we will pay your full cover level in the event that you are diagnosed with various types and levels of cancer – ranging from
the smallest melanoma to pre-cancerous conditions called carcinomas-in-situ. Plus, your cover will be up to three times your lever of cover if you are diagnosed with a more severe cancer. This coverage is market-leading and exceptional, providing you with greater peace of mind and financial security.

Upgrade your cover to Cancer Care Plus

You have the option to upgrade your cover to Cancer Care Plus, which covers you for 22 additional medical conditions including stroke, heart disease and multiple sclerosis. This provides you with the option of a more thorough insurance policy. Find out more here.

Claim more than once on the same policy

Most trauma insurance policies only allow you to claim once. With Cancer Care insurance, you can claim multiple times on the same policy.

This feature is extremely helpful if you suffer a cancer that returns with greater severity, or, if you are diagnosed with a different type of cancer down the track.

How does this work?

If, after receiving a cancer benefit, you develop another cancer of a higher severity, or your existing cancer progresses, you are eligible to claim for the difference between the benefit you have already received and what you are eligible to receive for the new cancer or for the increased severity of your existing cancer. Your policy will end once a benefit is paid for a high level cancer.

This unique feature means that you get extra financial help, when you need it most.

How will a claim be determined?

It can help to understand how you will be paid a claim, and what benefit you may be entitled to receive. Here are some examples for your information.
If you have any questions call us on 1300 555 625 – Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm AEST.

Example 1.
$100,000 of Cancer Care cover; low level of cancer diagnosed

If you choose $100,000 of cover and you are diagnosed with a low level of cancer, such as melanoma, you will be paid a lump sum cash benefit of $100,000 upon diagnosis. Your policy will still continue as you have not claimed for a high level of cancer.

Example 2.
$100,000 of Cancer Care cover; high level of cancer diagnosed

If you choose $100,000 of cover and are diagnosed with a high level of cancer, such as acute leukaemia, you will be paid a lump sum cash benefit of 3 times your cover level, or $300,000 upon your diagnosis. Your policy will end after this payment.

Example 3.
$100,000 of cover; low level cancer diagnosis followed by high level cancer diagnosis

If you choose $100,000 of cover and are first diagnosed with a low level of cancer, you will be paid a lump sum cash benefit of $100,000. If you are later diagnosed with a high level of cancer, you are eligible for the difference – $300,000 less $100,000 – and can claim a further $200,000. Your policy will end after this payment.

10% of your premiums donated to cancer research

A unique feature of Cancer Care is that 10% of your insurance premiums are automatically donated to the valuable work of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, where every dollar of donation received goes towards cancer research.

Who can apply?

You can apply for Cancer Care if you are:
